Vice President Kamala Harris’ public approval ratings are tanking, according to a number of recent polls.
According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Harris’ overall favorability is 45%, with 46% disapproving. Her numbers are significantly worse than those of President Joe Biden, whose approval rating stands at just 51.5%.
In an Economist/YouGov survey conducted from July 17-20, 46% of respondents reported having an unfavorable view of Harris, as opposed to 43% whose views were favorable. Harris’ approval was particularly low with men, older voters, and those from the South and Midwest.
Moreover, Harris’ detractors were firmer in their views than her supporters, with 38% having a “very unfavorable” view of her, and only 22% holding a “very favorable” view.
These poor numbers come after a series of unflattering news stories about Harris, including reports in Politico and Business Insider about a “toxic” and dysfunctional environment in Harris’ office. Harris has also weathered heavy criticism over her handling of the border crisis, particularly after a poorly received interview with Lester Holt in June, in which she appeared to dismiss concerns about the border.
Harris, the first black female vice president in history, has long been seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, but current polling numbers cast her status into doubt.
